When life becomes unbearable because of terminal illness or chronic disease, isn't euthanasia a logical option for the person who suffers? Every person is entitled to dignity in death. So, isn't it time to review our laws?
Life is a miracle that never ceases to fascinate doctors, scientists and researchers alike. In the same breath one must add that the line between life and death is rather thin.Where there is life, death is inevitable, though the manner and time of death are often not in human hands.
In recent times , when people are racked by unbearable pain from a terminal illness or when the prognosis looks extremely bleak or day-to-day care becomes a huge burden, should not be allowed to end his/her life?
Isn't this ethical? Should it be made legal?
Netherlands was amongst first of Belgium, Luxemburg, Switzerland and Thailand legalising assisting suicide in 2002.
The conditions to be met were :
1. The disease is incurable
2. The patient's suffering is unbearable
3. Patient's condition is terminal
4. Patient requests death
